Good to know: this speeds up dispatch, not the delivery itself — how fast the parcel travels is set by the delivery option you choose at checkout. What does the Clarty promise cover?

You have 14 days to change your mind. Once your return reaches us, we process the refund within 48 hours. If your parcel is lost or damaged in transit, we replace it straight away.

What is in the box?

You get the Clarty IPL handset, safety glasses, a skin scraper, a UK power adapter and an English user manual. The handset weighs 161g and uses 22W mains power.

How do I use it?

Read the supplied user manual before first use. Start on level 1 and move up only when you are comfortable. Use auto-flash for larger areas and manual mode for edges and smaller areas. Follow the schedule in the user manual.

Is it suitable for every skin tone and area?

The manual's chart, in words: on fair to light skin (its first three tones) use levels 3 to 5; on medium brown skin, levels 1 and 2 only; on dark brown and black skin it isn't suitable and the sensor won't fire. Hair on the chart: black, dark brown, brown, and dark blonde or light brown. Not on it: blonde, red, grey and white, because the light needs pigment in the hair to work on. Not over tattoos. The built-in sensor checks your skin before every flash. If it won't flash on you, that's a 14-day return.

What results should I expect?

IPL works gradually. Hair that is treated regularly tends to grow back slower and finer over several weeks, and it needs keeping up. Results vary with hair colour and skin tone, and dark hair on lighter skin responds best. The flash itself feels like a warm snap rather than a sting, and you set the level.

How do delivery and returns work?

Delivery is free across Great Britain. We dispatch in 1 to 3 working days and delivery takes 5 to 10 working days. You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind. If the sensor won't flash on your skin, that's a 14-day return. Tell us within 14 days of delivery and send it back, no questions asked. Once it reaches us, we'll process your refund within 48 hours.

What if it stops working halfway through the 8 weeks?

A warm handset and a warm plug after a full leg are normal. If it gets too hot it stops flashing by itself and the fan keeps running. Leave it plugged in, give it 15 minutes, then carry on. That's the overheat protection, not a fault. 12-month Clarty warranty. If it stops flashing, send us a short video of it and we send a replacement, no repair wait.

From our early testers

Real people, real handsets, unedited.

Was dead skeptical at £120 when Braun charges near £300+, but this has genuinely surprised me. Underarms and lower legs were my problem areas. Started seeing bald patches around week 4, and by week 7 I'm only having to shave once every couple of weeks instead of every two days. Auto-glide mode makes doing legs dead quick while watching TV. Doesn't sting, just feels like a warm little tap.

Lauren B.Early tester

Noticeable thinning on my bikini line and shins after about a month of weekly sessions. Taking one star off solely because the power cord is on the shorter side, so you have to sit fairly close to the wall socket or use an extension lead. Aside from that small niggle, the unit itself is brilliant and saves a fortune compared to clinic visits.

Chloe T.Early tester

Used to get awful strawberry legs and ingrowns no matter how fresh my razor was. Level 3 is my sweet spot. Two months in, hair is coming back much finer and slower, and my skin isn't angry anymore. Lightweight, easy to grip, and doesn't overheat even after doing both legs back to back. Worth every penny.

Priya K.Early tester

Giving 2 stars purely out of frustration with myself and my own expectations. The handset is well-built, safe, and doesn't hurt, but you genuinely have to commit to doing it weekly for 6 to 8 weeks before things start slowing down. My flatmate borrowed it and her legs are practically smooth now, but I simply don't have the discipline to sit down once a week without forgetting. If you have the routine down it clearly works, but if you want instant zero-effort results, stick to waxing.

Gemma W.Early tester

Paid £60 a pop for professional sessions last year before I gave up because of the cost. Took a gamble on this and it produces the exact same reduction over time. The sensor is reassuring because it won't flash unless it has full contact with your skin. Delighted with it so far.

Megan S.Early tester

The first 3 weeks felt like nothing was happening and I was close to packing it back into the box. Stuck with it into the second month and the hair on my calves is definitely much patchier and softer now. Don't buy this expecting an overnight miracle, but if you treat it like a weekly routine, it does pay off.

Hannah R.Early tester

Threw my epilator in the bin after the second session with this. IPL is practically painless in comparison, just a quick snap of warmth. Did a patch test first on Level 1, then moved up to Level 4 for legs. The safety glasses included are handy. Really neat little device.

Danielle C.Early tester

The handset itself deserves 5 stars, easy to toggle between manual for smaller areas and auto-glide for legs. Dropping one star only because delivery took around 8 working days, which felt a bit slow. But the product is legit, packaged securely, and my underarm regrowth has slowed down massively.

Sophie M.Early tester

Fair skin with thick dark hair here, so textbook ideal candidate for IPL. Already seeing bald spots around week 5. Having no battery to recharge is actually a bonus because you never lose power halfway through a session. Super straightforward to use right out of the box.

Zara A.Early tester

Does take a few tries to get used to the angle around trickier spots like knees and ankles, but once you get the hang of it, a full session takes about 15 minutes. Hair is growing back at a fraction of the speed it used to. Very satisfied for the price point.

Inside the handset

The handset has 5 intensity levels, a built-in skin-tone sensor, auto and manual modes, and 22W mains power through a UK three-pin adapter. The box also contains safety glasses, a skin scraper and an English user manual. The single-handset offer includes 2 aloe gels.

Clarty runs from a UK 3-pin adapter, 22 W. There's no battery to die in a drawer between sessions.

12-month Clarty warranty. If it stops flashing, send us a short video of it and we send a replacement, no repair wait.

* How we got 5 years

The supplier lists the lamp at 100,000 flashes. The flash window is 3.15 cm² and the manual asks for 3 passes per session. Lower legs, underarms and bikini line come to about 1,500 cm², so a session is about 1,430 flashes. The 8-week plan is 14 sessions, about 20,000 flashes, leaving about 80,000 for monthly top-ups: roughly 56 of them, or about 5 years. Full legs and arms every session use the lamp about 4 times faster, so budget about a year of heavy use. No handset lamp lasts for ever; ours is mains-powered so there is no battery to fail first.

How the handset works

IPL sends brief pulses of broad-spectrum light towards pigment in the hair. The built-in skin-tone sensor works alongside 5 intensity levels. Auto-flash is there for larger areas, while manual mode gives you control around edges and smaller areas. The handset stays plugged into mains power, so there is no battery to charge.

How to use Clarty

Auto and manual modes: automatic for large areas like legs, manual for edges like the face, underarms and bikini line

Before every session

  1. Shave wet, with soap or shower gel, then dry the skin fully. Don't wax or pluck: the hair root needs to be there for the light.
  2. Nothing on the skin before you flash. No oil, no cream, no gel. The aloe gel in your box is for after, never before (it blocks the light).
  3. No glycolic acid, salicylic acid or retinol on the area for the week around each session.
  4. No sun or fake tan on the area in the last 2 weeks.
  5. Skip tattoos and moles. Never on nipples, genitals, inside the nose or ears.
  6. Not during pregnancy, breastfeeding or your period, and not on eczema or dermatitis.
  7. Patch test one small spot on level 1. Wait 24 hours. Use the highest level that gave no reaction.
  8. Glasses on. One flash per spot, three passes over the area, never three flashes on the same spot in a row.
  1. Read the supplied user manual and check its shade chart before first use. Do not use the handset on tattoos or very dark skin tones.
  2. Plug in the handset. Start on intensity level 1 and move up only when you are comfortable.
  3. Choose auto-flash for larger areas such as legs. Use manual mode for edges and smaller areas such as the face, underarms and bikini line.
  4. The 8-week plan: 2 sessions a week for 6 weeks, then 1 a week for weeks 7 and 8. After that, a top-up when it regrows.

Week 2 usually looks like nothing has happened. That's normal. Keep to 2 sessions a week, same areas, same order, and don't add new areas yet. The 8-week plan page ticks off each session, so keep going even when you can't see a change.

The published work behind home IPL

IPL uses broad-spectrum light that is absorbed by pigment in the hair. Published work has studied home-use IPL devices, and separate guidance covers the safe use of light-based home hair-removal devices. The cited results are for the devices studied, not Clarty. Follow the supplied user manual.

At home in Surrey, where Clarty started

Why Jane started Clarty

Clarty was started by Jane, a beautician from Surrey, after years of paying a salon £200 to £500 a course. She tried the handsets on herself first and kept the one that felt like a warm snap rather than a sting. That is the one in the box.

Questions, answered straight

Does it hurt?
Close-up of the Clarty handset head pressed to the inside of a forearm with the flash window lit against the skin

Most people describe the flash as a warm snap against the skin, not a sting. Start on level 1 and move up only when you are comfortable. Five levels and the skin-tone sensor keep the setting in your hands.

Will it work with my hair and skin tone?

IPL directs light at the pigment in the hair, so the contrast between hair colour and skin tone matters. It is generally better suited to darker hair. The handset has a built-in skin-tone sensor, and the user guide includes a shade chart to check before first use. If it turns out not to suit you, you have 14 days to return it.

What is in the box?

The box holds the Clarty IPL handset, safety glasses, skin scraper, UK power adapter and English user manual. It runs on mains power (100-240V), so there is no battery to charge or replace. The handset weighs 161g.

Delivery and returns

Delivery is free across Great Britain on orders over £75, which includes this handset. We dispatch within 1 to 3 working days and delivery takes 5 to 10 working days. We deliver to England, Scotland and Wales only. You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind, in line with UK consumer law.

How often should I use it?

The 8-week plan: 2 sessions a week for 6 weeks, then 1 a week for weeks 7 and 8. After that, a top-up when it regrows.

Which body areas is it made for?

Legs, face, underarms and bikini line. Use auto-flash on the bigger areas and manual mode around the edges, and stick to what the user manual permits.

Does it need charging?

No. It runs on 22W mains power through a UK three-pin adapter, so there is no battery to charge or replace.

Are the goggles and aloe gels included?

Yes. The single-handset offer includes safety goggles and 2 aloe gels. The box also contains a skin scraper, UK power adapter and English user manual.

Will I pay import fees at the door?

No. Any import VAT, duty or courier fee is paid by Clarty.

What if I need help?

Email hello@clarty.co.uk. A real person replies within 1 working day.

Can my daughter use it?

The manual sets no minimum age. The same rules apply to everyone: the skin and hair chart, the patch test, and no use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or your period. If you're buying for a teenager, sit with her for the patch test and the first session.

The Clarty promise
